Partnership between Schools Broadband and DfE/DCMS to deliver faster broadband to schools
Schools web filtering and security specialists, Schools Broadband, reaffirm their position as market innovators, through their work in conjunction with the Department for Education (DfE) and the Department for Digital Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), on a pilot scheme to deliver faster broadband to schools.
The joint scheme will see the delivery of broadband speeds, ten times faster to schools in areas where poor fibre infrastructure currently limits speeds to 30Mbps and below.
The success of the scheme and the partnership, will rely on Schools Broadband to deliver new Ultrafast/Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) technology, delivering speeds up to 300Mbps.
An average of £30k, to cover the cost of fibre installation, has been made available for each school that fits the above criteria, and who doesn’t already have a dedicated Leased Line. It is estimated there are upwards of 2000 schools who will benefit.
Phase one of the successful pilot scheme is nearing completion, with phase two planned for launch in April 2019, where hundreds more schools will be eligible to join.
David Tindall, CEO of Schools Broadband said: “It is an honour to be working in partnership with the DfE, on a scheme that will finally bring faster speeds to schools who have struggled with unacceptable slow speeds for too long.”
Schools who wish to apply to be a part of the phase 2 pilot scheme should contact Schools Broadband who will assess their eligibility. Visit the Schools Broadband stand at BETT, B281 – or call 01133 222 333 (Option 3) or email info@schoolsBroadband.co.uk.
