Learning Elsewhere

Learning Elsewhere

Learning Elsewhere  In Association with heppell.net

At BETT 2009, Learning Elsewhere focuses on today’s progress towards mobile, remote and distance learning and extending the education experience beyond the classroom.

Sponsors are working with students from a different school each day, including Lampton School, Capel le Ferne School, Castleview School and Kings Road Primary.

The sponsors will be showcasing:

 LP Plus  Smart Logo

Learning Possibilities Group, home of LP+, a leading provider of learning platforms and mobile technologies, supports students in becoming creative, collaborative learners both in and beyond the classroom and within a global community. Experts may support students in a virtual classroom and families are engaged with their child’s learning activities. LP+ is at the heart of dynamic and relevant learning experiences for young people - everywhere.

SMART Technologies is showing how to fuel student’s appetite for digital content, with SMART Learning Marketplace, which hosts digital content from top education publishers, facilitating learning anytime and anywhere. In addition to this visitors will understand how SMART’s new Notebook Student Edition software enables students to organise their projects and complete assignments in a personalised, nonlinear way. And finally, SMART is explaining its connection with the Intelpowered Classmate PCs.
 Steljes Logo
Tribal Logo

Steljes Limited is SMART's exclusive representative in the UK and Ireland and is continually working with schools and Local Authorities to explore new and exciting ways of learning beyond the boundaries of the classroom.  The Steljes education team is providing the schools taking part in this innovative zone with training and support, as well as products from SMART Technologies.

Tribal is demonstrating how its m-learning suite is providing schools with the ability to use mobile technologies to enhance the learning experience inside and outside of the school building. Its MyLearning author for a Pocket PC is a set of easy to-use software tools that allows the creation of vibrant learning activities that learners can run on their mobile devices. Tribal will also demonstrate its new Learning Score software tool which was invented by John Davitt and developed in partnership with Tribal. The Learning Score can be used for planning, negotiating, sharing and reviewing learning events including lessons, seminars and meetings. The Learning Score grew out of the desire to provide teachers and learners with more guidance and support than that provided by the traditional lesson plan.

Alongside this schools from San Diego, Cayman Islands, South East Asia and Tasmania are on a live link up speaking to the on stand students from UK schools about the innovative changes they have experienced and the outstanding results that have been achieved. A different international school will be the ‘virtual’ visitor each day. On the first day, BETT opens with a live link up with George Hicks School from the Cayman Islands. Once a large school, it has now been divided into four smaller areas where some students have demonstrated an improvement by two grades since its transformation 18 months ago. Reece High School, Tasmania was rebuilt into principal learning bases with 125 children in each self contained base. Incidences of misbehaviour are down 89 per cent.

Alongside this you can also attend one of the many presentations taking place on the stands. Click here for a full list
