Seminars - Dyslexia Friendly Education
Seminar Details SEMINAR BOOKING CODE: SE21 'If they can't learn the way we teach, can we teach the way they learn? (Harry Chasty). This session will outline ways of learning that work well for Dyslexics, with many inspirational, practical teaching ideas. The session will outline the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark, developed by the British Dyslexia Association. This is a system that enables educational establishments across all age ranges to understand how to appropriately support and facilitate their Dyslexic pupils and provides a process through which they can turn this into embedded good practice. It is a whole organisation approach. Effective specialist intervention programmes (1:1 or in small groups) are necessary within a Dyslexia Friendly setting, but there is also an emphasis on all teachers and teaching assistants having an awareness of Dyslexia and using quality first teaching techniques that work well for Dyslexics in the classroom. This leads to good, inclusive classroom practice and teachers report benefits not only the Dyslexic students, but also those with other special educational needs. Effective (early) identification systems and buidling positive self -esteem are also key elements in Dyslexia Friendly settings.
