The TDA supported SEN Portal is an online resource intended to further develop the knowledge base available to teachers and trainee teachers about how to ensure the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) are met. Mike Blamires will describe how the use of technology is being pursued to meet the project’s goals, which are to: identify the knowledge teachers and trainee teachers need in various aspects of SEN, working in collaboration with a range of SEN and teacher education specialists  review existing content and make recommendations for new material and provide reviews of new materials develop practical resources for tutors and trainees building upon the current round of TDA funded SEN R&D Awards commission and develop new materials, based on needs expressed by the ITE community or on policy recommendations. develop new “route ways” through the range of resources available on the TTRB SEN Portal for different audiences (e.g. tutors, mentors or trainees) develop and test out new ways of online support, including communities of practice update the SEN and ITT beginner teachers’ guide which was distributed to all trainee teachers in 2006. The project is one aspect of a wider SEN and disability programme led by TDA which is targeted at developing knowledge, understanding and skills at 3 levels: Core skills for all staff, Advanced skills for some staff in all schools, Specialist skills - for some staff in some schools and working across schools. Update the SEN and ITT beginner teachers’ guide which was distributed to all trainee teachers in 2006.
