Saqib Safdar

Teacher of Mathematicsand AST e-learning, Woodhouse College

Saqib started teaching Maths in 2004 at a sixth form college in London. He began using technology as a form of blended learning to stretch the gifted & talented and support less able students. He found by applying Vygotksy’s zone of proximal development to online groups,  he could get students to solve problems creatively and collaboratively online and was soon appointed as e-Learning champion. In 2009, he travelled and worked in the Middle East. This gave him the wonderful opportunity to learn more about government initiatives, which invest in technology to create a pedagogical shift for the schools to meet the demands of the information age. He is currently based at a leading sixth form college in North London, working as a teacher of Mathematics and e-Advanced Skills Teacher. Last year he successfully ran a Teaching and Learning Community on flipped learning which critiqued conventional models of flipped learning. He is currently developing the use of iPads, Google Classroom and Onenote across the college. He participates regularly in the North and East London eLearning form and has given a talk at eFactor 2013 on ‘iPads, Education and the Digital Age’.
