Principal Investigator, Nimbus Centre, Cork Institute of Technology
Dr Kieran Delaney is the Research Development Manager of the Nimbus Centre for Embedded Systems Research, based in Cork Institute of Technology. The Centre, which has over 100 researchers and state-of-the-art facilities, is focused upon delivering industry-relevant research, particularly in applying Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to a range of domains, including the built environment, energy and water utilities, smart cities, education, health and the environment. Dr Delaney is Lead Investigator in some of its most innovative work in the education sector where Nimbus is creating novel IoT applications and working on new teaching methods that leverage the versatility of these technologies.
Dr Delaney received a B.E. (Elec.) in 1992 and a PhD. degree in microelectronics from University College Cork, Ireland in 1997. He has developed a significant track record in collaborative research and innovation projects (particularly in multi-partner EU projects) and has produced a strong body of research in hardware systems solutions for ambient intelligence and multi-modal embodied interaction technologies. His most recent work is focused upon designing novel user engagement strategies and creating innovative IoT systems in the domains of education and independent living.
