International Learning & Networking event:

Scandinavian experiences and perspectives on ICT and school development

09.30-12.30 Friday 1st February, BETT, Platinum Suite 4, ExCeL London

Schools and local authorities must devise suitable approaches to the changes in schools which are driven by globalisation and digitisation. To give some useful insights of the Scandinavian development, schools in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, with a combination of practice and research, presented their current work and progress.

This session offered a rare opportunity to broaden the range of useful transferable insights available – by connecting UK compulsory education leaders with counterparts from Scandinavia to discuss a wealth of research on learning and state-of-the-art case studies. The case studies highlighted the processes as well as the results and success stories from school development supported by ICT, but also the difficulties encountered as schools tried to discard traditional assumptions, the difference that effective leadership can make, and the factors that can motivate teachers to embrace change.

The session featured three Scandinavian case study presentations moderated by Professor Stephen Heppell from the UK, and Øystein Johannessen from Norway. Delegates were provided with ample opportunities to learn not only from the speakers but from each other, via discussion and networking time.
